One of the most crucial parts of the data processing process, and often
one of the most overlooked. Blindly force editing data can compromise quality, and therefore no forcing is done at time of data entry. A separate data cleaning programme is written, and all punched data is
run through this. This programme will either:

	•	Produce an edit report, containing a list and details of all edit failures, or
	•	Operate interactively, so that all edit failures are corrected on screen as the programme is running.

Either way, almost all editing will involve reviewing the completed questionnaires before any editing decisions are taken.
